To enhance food security and nutrition in Ethiopia, Quarit is implementing its strategic plan in collaboration with international investors and non-governmental organizations. Currently, the organization is carrying out the project “Optimizing Super Cereal Foods Production through Smallholder Sourcing and Production Service Optimization” in collaboration with IDH. The initiative aims to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality raw materials, improve nutritional outcomes, and create sustainable economic opportunities for smallholder farmers.
Job Summary
The Value Chain Coordinator will manage the maize and soybean supply chains under the project, overseeing procurement, farmer engagement, and the delivery of raw materials required for production. The role will focus on strengthening collaboration with smallholder farmers, enhancing productivity, and ensuring efficient and reliable supply chain management throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination and Networking: Coordinate all value chain activities for the maize and soybean supply chains.
- Liaise with cooperatives, farmers, regional bureaus, and project partners (CIAT, seed enterprises) for smooth implementation.
- Build strong working relationships with relevant company departments and external stakeholders.
- Review existing value chain activities, identify key actors, and develop value chain mapping from input sourcing to final product distribution.
Implementation and Monitoring
- In consultation with the project manager, prepare a detailed implementation plan for value chain activities.
- Monitor and track the quality and quantity of raw materials sourced from farmers.
- Prepare and submit timely progress reports to the project manager and donor.
- Identify risks or delays in sourcing, production, or distribution and recommend corrective actions.
Capacity Building
- Facilitate farmer training on agronomy, regenerative agriculture, and post-harvest handling.
- Strengthen cooperatives’ capacity in aggregation, quality compliance, and financial linkages.
- Promote gender equity and youth engagement in all project activities.
- Coordinate platforms and training on value chain development, contract farming, and market linkages.
- Provide guidance, technical support, and advice to field staff and partners.
Assessments and Innovations
- Conduct regular assessments to identify challenges and opportunities in the value chain.
- Support the introduction of innovative practices and technologies to improve productivity and quality.
- Review and update company and government policies, strategies, and regulations relevant to value chain activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, agribusiness, supply chain management, or related field (master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in agricultural value chain development, preferably in donor-funded or NGO projects.
- Practical experience in value chain analysis, market linkages, and mapping.
- Proven ability to work effectively with smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and rural communities.
- Strong coordination, facilitation, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project tracking tools.
- Prior work experience in the Amhara and Benishangul-Gumuz regions.
- Willingness to travel extensively within project regions.
