About CorpsAfrica
CorpsAfrica is a US-based nonprofit organization founded in 2011 by former United States Peace Corps Volunteer Liz Fanning. Its aim is to recruit and train college-educated young African men and women to serve in under-resourced communities as “Volunteers.” This initiative focuses on:

CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia is seeking passionate and driven young Ethiopian university graduates to join Cohort 3 as Volunteers. This is a unique opportunity to:
- Serve in rural communities
- Facilitate small-scale, high-impact, community-led development initiatives
- Become a changemaker and make a lasting impact!
Basic Description of CorpsAfrica Service
CorpsAfrica Volunteers undergo one month of Pre-Service Training and then serve for ten months in a community chosen based on:
- Perceived need of the community
- Existence of local partners and essential infrastructure
- Location and other criteria
During their service, Volunteers:
- Identify areas of concern for the community
- Co-create and design solutions
- Implement solutions with local partners
- Monitor and evaluate results
Volunteers receive:
- Professional training before and during their service
- Support from CorpsAfrica staff
- A modest living allowance and health insurance
- A readjustment allowance upon successful completion of the program
General Expectations of a CorpsAfrica Volunteer
- Commit to working in a highly underserved community in Ethiopia
- Serve where CorpsAfrica asks, under conditions of hardship if necessary
- Recognize that success is based on building trust with the host community
- Understand responsibility for personal conduct and professional performance
- Engage with host community partners in a spirit of cooperation
- Exercise good judgment to protect health and safety
- Respect the people, cultures, values, and traditions of the community
Essential Requirements for Applying to be a CorpsAfrica Volunteer
To be eligible for service, you must:
- Be a citizen of Ethiopia
- Be 21 – 29 years of age
- Possess a university degree or equivalent professional experience
- Be willing and able to serve in rural, often remote communities
- Have no record of criminal activity
- Have no conflict of interest affecting duties
- Understand that volunteerism is altruistic
- Be willing to sign the CorpsAfrica Volunteer Acknowledgment and Waiver of Liability
CorpsAfrica Volunteers Receive the Following Before and During Service:
- Expert training from development and management professionals
- A living allowance adequate to support the Volunteer
- Travel funds for official CorpsAfrica business
