Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports the 2030 Agenda through its Strategic Framework, promoting efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and life, leaving no one behind.
FAO Country Offices, working under overall corporate guidance and in line with the Strategic Framework, offer policy advice and support to countries in the mandated areas of FAO, facilitated through partnerships, resources and an active country programme to provide technical assistance, develop capacities and deliver core services while fully observing international standards of accountability to establish leadership and strengthen impact at the country level.The offices deliver on the programmatic priorities of each country as agreed in their respective Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs) aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and ensure effective and efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.
The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) was established by the Government of Ethiopia in 2011 with the primary aim to help accelerate the growth and transformation of Ethiopia’s agriculture sector which is a key contributor to the country’s GDP, exports, and workforce, and help the country reach middle-income status by 2025, as per Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation plans I and II. As a strategy and delivery-oriented government institute, ATI works to transform the Ethiopian agriculture sector by conducting policy and analytical studies, providing technical implementation support and capacity building, establishing coordinating platforms to better integrate partners and projects, and designing and directly leading several innovative/pilot projects. The analytics unit- which is ATI's strategic advisory and consulting unit- was created to lead the design and execution of high-impact innovative interventions and strengthen the partnerships with senior leadership at partner organizations across government, multilateral and bilateral donors, NGOs and the private sector.
This position is based in the FAO Ethiopia Country Office while supporting the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute’s (ATI) Analytics Unit.
Reporting Lines
The Analytics Team Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative in Ethiopia, with technical supervision provided by the Agriculture Officer from the Sub-regional Office.
Technical Focus
FAO’s support to the Analytics Unit in ATI will help strengthen of effective strategic, analytical, technical and operational capabilities required for the agriculture sector transformation. The following areas will be the focus of the support:
• Agricultural Rural Development (ARD) Policy reform support
• Agriculture Commercialization Cluster (ACC) Phase 2 Program Design and launch
• Food Systems Transformation pathways implementation
• Digital Agriculture strategic initiatives designed and implemented
• Capacity Building & Strategic Analysis strengthen
Tasks and responsibilities
• Lead on conducting a diverse set of high-impact client cases and studies at a time relevant to ATI’s strategic focus;
• Provide strategic and technical oversight and expertise to ATI’s Analytics Team, namely supporting other Principals, Senior Case Team Leaders and Case Team Leaders;
• Provide sound strategic and technical advice to ATI and Ministry of Agriculture’s leadership on agricultural transformation pathways;
• Ensure the analytical soundness, rigor, practicality and quality of output across all cases, while effectively managing the political-economy dynamics of the stakeholder landscape;
• Support case teams in internal and external steering committees and workshops, and lead engagement with more senior stakeholders;
• Ensure effective partnership and relations with internal and external stakeholders,
• Responsible for administratively leading on ATI’s Analytics Team management for timely and quality manner, including, yet not limited to recruitment and professional development;
• Supervise and provide guidance and direction to junior/medium-level affiliate personnel on both casework and professional development through regular case team meetings and 1-on-1 coaching and mentoring;
• Make decisions on broader team management activities, such as case prioritization, staffing, performance management, design and delivery of training and professional development programs, and knowledge management;
• Perform other related duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in economic/financial studies, Master of Business Administration (MBA), or relevant fields from recognized international universities
• A minimum of ten years of relevant work experience in management or executive leadership roles of highly technical teams, in strategic management consulting, with experience in managing and developing local consulting teams and exposure to national and regional policy development, finance and agriculture/development sector
• Full proficiency/Working knowledge of English

Selection Criteria
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience with UN system and agricultural sector.
• Proven strong analytical and reporting skills with a demonstrated ability to work with large datasets and drafting high quality technical reports.
• Strong knowledge of and recent working experience within the Ethiopian Agriculture sector context is required
• Knowledge of a second language is a plus (French, Spanish Arabic, Chinese or Russian)
