Job Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled Civil Engineer to lead design reviews, prepare detailed engineering documents, and ensure compliance with civil and structural standards. The role includes managing project schedules, resources, and documentation while ensuring contract compliance. The engineer will supervise daily site activities, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and resolve technical issues promptly. Candidates must have strong software proficiency, a valid professional license, and 6–8 years of proven experience in industrial or similar construction projects.
Workplace:
Head Office, Addis Ababa, with frequent visits to project sites.
Responsibilities
I. Technical & Design Responsibilities
- Review, validate, and revise civil and structural drawings, BOQs, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Develop detailed civil engineering designs and ensure compliance with engineering codes and standards.
- Prepare construction documents including drawings, technical specifications, BOQs and TOS, and method statements.
- Provide technical support during design development, procurement evaluations, and construction execution.
- Ensure proper setting-out, leveling, alignment, and supervision of structural and architectural works.
II. Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain project master schedule, including activities, dependencies, resource loading, and critical path tracking.
- Prepare work breakdown structures (WBS), manpower plans, and resource allocation strategies.
- Track progress vs schedule and propose recovery actions when required.
III. Contract & Documentation Management
- Review contractual obligations and ensure contractor compliance with scope, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Manage and document variations, claims, RFIs, change orders, and contract correspondence.
- Maintain well-organized project records, meeting minutes, logs, and reporting dashboards.
IV. Site Supervision & Coordination
- Conduct daily site inspections to verify construction quality, safety, and adherence to design.
- Supervise civil works including earthworks, foundations, concrete works, masonry, finishes, and utilities
- Coordinate with MEP, architectural, QA/QC, safety, and procurement teams to keep site workflow uninterrupted.
- Resolve on-site technical problems quickly and professionally.
V. Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project reports with measurable progress indicators.
- Update management and stakeholders with accurate schedule, cost, and resource status.
- Represent the project office during meetings with consultants, contractors, authorities, and suppliers.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized and accredited institution with a minimum CGPA of 3.2.
- Minimum of 6-8 years proven experience in civil engineering, site supervision, design review, and project management (industrial project experience preferred
- Verified Professional Competency License from concerned Construction Authority.
- Certified training in relevant engineering and design software, including:
- AutoCAD
- MS Project or Primavera P6 (for project scheduling and master plan development)
- Advanced Excel (data analysis, reporting, quantity control)
- SAP2000 / ETABS (optional but advantageous)
- Revit (optional but advantageous)
Skills Required
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, advanced excel or similar engineering software.
- Good understanding of structural analysis tools (SAP2000, ETABS — optional but valuable).
- Expertise in interpreting drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong skills in preparing and managing project master schedules (Primavera P6 or MS Project).
- High accuracy in measurements, calculations, and construction documentation.
Project Management Skills
- Strong analytical and planning capabilities.
- Solid understanding of contract management principles.
- Ability to prepare WBS, baseline schedules, progress tracking, and forecasting.
- Skilled in resource allocation, budgeting, and risk assessment.
- Project Coordination Skills
- Ability to lead site teams, sub-contractors, and multidisciplinary staff.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
