Position Summary
- The job holder is responsible for conducting thorough reviews of processed loan applications, evaluating the financial position of applicants utilizing various credit analysis techniques to assess the viability and creditworthiness of their business. The primary task is to determine the suitability of granting a loan and provide recommendations on the loan amount and disbursement terms. It also plays a crucial role in appraising the financial standing of applicants and making informed decisions regarding loan approvals based on their creditworthiness and business stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure appropriate risk identification, measurement and management is in place in the district;
- Manages credit analysis and appraisal, loan portfolio management and loan recovery activities of the district;
- Manage the collateral evaluation checking activities of the district;
- Evaluates and determines viability of the customer’s business;
- Ensure the processed loan applications are counterchecked to verify the correctness of the analysis made by branches and information provided by the customers;
- Examine and test financial statement of the applicant using different tools of financial analysis technique;
- Conduct business visits, where appropriate, during loan processing;
- Ensure the applicant’s credit track record and collateral condition and values are reviewed;
- Evaluate the risk involved in the business of the applicant and collaterals;
- Grades customer’s credit risk and reviews it periodically;
- Determine the financial requirement of the applicant’s business;
- Prepare credit analysis report and recommends loan type, amount, and other covenants;
- Present the case for deliberation to appropriate credit committee and defend the proposal;
- Ensure the compliance of the credit policy and procedure of the Bank the regulation and directives of NBE and country law;
- Prepares reports monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually as well as on ad-hoc basis as need be;
- Prepare technical training material and train branch staff found under the district domain on basic credit management and ensure employees are well informed of the bank’s policy and procedure and NBE directives in credit areas; and
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualification Requirements
- BA/MA Degree in Economics, Management, Accounting and Finance, Business Management and other related field of study.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant Banking experience in the positions of Branch Manager, Customer Relationship Management, Manager-Operations Management, and other related relevant experience’s. Applicant with Credit exposure is preferable.
Required Competencies
- Ability to assess and quantify risks associated with lending decisions.
- Expertise in analyzing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flows.
- Familiarity with credit scoring systems (e.g., FICO) and risk grading models.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., Basel III, IFRS 9, NBE directives).
- Ability to analyze economic and market trends affecting credit performance.
- Capacity to monitor and manage the risk of the organization’s credit portfolio.
- Understanding to make well-informed, data-driven decisions under time constraints.
- Able to guide, mentor, and evaluate a team of credit analysts.
- Skill to develop and enforce internal credit risk policies.
- Ensure that credit practices align with business objectives and growth strategies.
- Capability to monitor economic changes and industry developments to adjust credit policies.
- Evaluate the impact of credit decisions on profitability and loan performance.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build relationships with key clients to enhance loan portfolio quality.
- Skill to negotiate credit terms and conditions with customers and partners.
