FHI 360 serves more than 70 countries, all 50 U.S. states, and all U.S. territories. The Crisis Response team has been responding to the humanitarian emergency in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and Somali Regions through an integrated Health, Nutrition, WASH, and Protection project to meet the critical needs of the conflict-affected population. FHI 360 aims to expand its reach to the Oromia Region in Negele East Borena, Ethiopia, to provide humanitarian response to the affected population and will be implementing the program with the Ethiopia-based national organization, Pastoralist Concern (PC).
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Health & Nutrition Coordinator, the Health and Nutrition Team Leader will lead the health and nutrition program activities implementation in Oromia Region, Negele East Borena, Ethiopia. Responsibilities include:
- Overall leadership in planning, executing, and coordinating team efforts
- Managing and defining project objectives
- Overseeing quality control throughout the project’s life cycle
- Creating work plans based on project goals
- Implementing evidence-based interventions
- Collaborating with other sectors for integrated work plans and budgets
- Ensuring activities align with FHI 360 guidelines and RHB protocols
Accountabilities
The Health and Nutrition Team Leader will be responsible for:
- Implementing the health and nutrition component of a humanitarian program
- Organizing and overseeing medical outreach activities
- Leading assessments and defining FHI 360 operation locations
- Monitoring progress on health and nutrition-related activities
- Conducting health and nutrition-related assessments
- Providing technical guidance on emergency activities
- Developing partnerships and ensuring effective coordination
- Managing health and nutrition program budget
- Determining staffing needs and conducting recruitment
- Managing health and nutrition sector field personnel
- Assisting with resource mobilization
Applied Knowledge & Skills
- Ensures appropriate and timely technical support for field projects
- Ensures quality of implemented technical activities
- Conducts routine coordination with employees and consultants
- Strong knowledge and skills in a specific technical area/function
- Ability to manage projects and set realistic priorities
- Proficient writing and verbal communication skills
- Relevant computer software skills, including MS Office

- Fluency in English and host country language

- Serve as a mentor to less experienced technical staff
Job Requirements
Education
Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in a relevant field. Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.
Experience
- Over 6+ years of relevant experience in technical implementation of large projects and/or programs.
- Documented experience providing technical assistance, capacity building, and business development.
- Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
- Experience establishing and leading successful startup operations/projects in complex emergencies.
- Significant background in managing public health initiatives is required.
- Experience leading technical assessments using methodologies such as SMART and SQUEAC.
- Experience coordinating complex health programs with a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Knowledge and application of Office of US Foreign Disaster (OFDA), BHA, and UN donors required.
- Skilled in developing responsive, evidence-based program designs, including budget development.
- Familiar with and abide by Red Cross/NGO Code of Conduct.
- Breadth of geographic location experience preferred.
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of political, contextual, and ethical issues.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Expertise in humanitarian health programming, specifically first-phase response operations.
