The Ethiopian Lawyers Association (ELA) is a longstanding non-governmental, non-profit professional organization established in 1965. It is a founding member of the Pan African Lawyers Association (PALU) and the International Bar Association (IBA). ELA is committed to promoting the rule of law, good governance, human rights, and democracy in Ethiopia. The organization works to enhance the knowledge and understanding of legal professionals and stakeholders on key legal issues, including access to justice, property rights, land rights, criminal justice, and legal precedent. ELA is headquartered in Addis Ababa and is dedicated to impacting the legal field positively in Ethiopia.
Role Description
- Conduct research, Design, plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and report projects;
- Plan, Implement and submit a timely activity, monitoring and evaluation reports of projects;;
- Facilitate a regular review process of projects;
- Organizes capacity building workshops, training, conferences, panel discussions, meetings, etc to the legal community and stakeholders;
- Draft and edit contracts, legal memos, correspondence, renders legal advice; Provides technical support to the community free legal service programs of the employer, including research and publication.
- Conduct research, documentation and strategic advocacy activities of the employer;
- Prepares and compiles communications, information and presentation materials, reports and other documents;
- Records, compiles data and Assist Project drafting activities;
- Prepares documentation about the progress of the project through video, photography, written and other formats;
- Drafts monitoring and evaluation checklists and reports of projects;
- Undertakes documentation about project progress and verifies completeness of information;
- Do other duties as assigned;
Terms of Employment
Salary: Negotiable
Job Time: Full-time
Duration: one-year fixed-term contract from the date of signing with a possibility of extension based on performance assessment and availability of funds.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law and above
- Minimum 1 year of experience in legal research and project work.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Excellent communication and problem management skills
- A proactive, participatory and result-oriented approach is required
- Able to work independently and highly meticulous;
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and to work under the pressure of rigid deadlines and conflicting priorities;
- Ability to communicate detailed information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing;
- Excellent computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Publisher, internet, email,), and openness to work with other new platforms.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to present findings effectively and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Research skills to source, gather, and evaluate legal and policy information to support ELA’s mission-driven work.
- Interest in topics such as the rule of law, governance, human rights, democracy, and access to justice is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and thrive in an on-site work environment.
- willing to travel outside of Addis Ababa for field work.
