Position Overview
FHI 360’s Crisis Response Department is looking to hire a Safety and Security Assistant. This role involves assisting the Safety and Security Manager with the management of all humanitarian activities at the field level, focusing on programmatic aspects of the response. Under the supervision of the Safety and Security Manager, the incumbent will fill a critical role on the response team, overseeing all program staff and activities from the field office.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads the preparation of task-based risk assessments.
- Establishes and maintains close relations with host community security agencies and acts as a liaison between senior security professionals and host community services.
- Maintains dialogue with authorities and international institutions such as UNDSS, INGO Security Forum, and other Red Cross/Red Crescent movements regarding security matters.
- Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team on non-routine matters such as mine removal, evacuations, and medical emergencies.
- Supports the ongoing evaluation of air, land, and evacuation routes for emergencies.
- Ensures availability of fire detection devices and firefighting equipment, maintains fire evacuation plans, and conducts drills.
- Conducts routine security surveys of office and residential areas.
- Performs physical security inspections of facilities, including safe rooms and identity card issuance.
- Keeps staff members fully informed on matters affecting their security and safety.
- Investigates and prepares reports on minor cases of theft, illegal entry, and other incidents.
- Implements policies and procedures for reviewing crisis situations and preparing contingency plans.
- Ensures availability of emergency communications systems through periodic checks.
- Manages and supervises all FHI 360 guards, including the creation of schedules.
- Assists in creating a security culture within the organization.
Job Requirements
Desired Qualifications:
- BA Degree or its International Equivalent in Security Management, information management, business administration, political/social science, or international relations with a focus on security management.
- 0-2 years of progressive responsible experience in investigation, military, police, or security management.
- Previous experience in a similar role with another organization is preferred.
- Fluent in local language (Amharic) and excellent in English.
- Good knowledge of the local context.
- Unbiased in their analysis.
Travel Requirements
- 50% travel throughout the region.
