About Halwote Hareg
Halwote Hareg is an independent type design studio based in Addis Ababa, focused on crafting Ethiopic and multiscript typefaces with cultural intelligence and visual precision. We design fonts that go beyond decoration: they carry history, intention, and identity. Our clients range from branding agencies and institutions to cultural organizations that understand the value of typography as a strategic asset.
We don’t produce at scale. We produce with care. Every typeface we release or develop is grounded in research, utility, and cultural clarity.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing
- Client Scouting: Identify and vet new potential clients who need high-caliber typography, custom fonts, or brand identity rooted in culture.
- Relationship Development: Establish and maintain meaningful, long-term relationships with key clients, agencies, and institutions.
- Operational Growth: Spot inefficiencies in how we work, propose practical improvements, and help us scale smartly.
- Cultural Alignment: Understand our purpose and tone when talking to potential partners—this isn’t a mass-market product, and we don’t speak in jargon.
Who This Role Is Actually For
- You’re based in Addis Ababa and can show up to our office three days a week, no excuses. (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays specifically)
- You’ve worked in or with creative studios, agencies, or cultural orgs, you understand the tempo and the mindset.
- You know how to write clear emails, speak directly, and not waste time.
- You’re not allergic to spreadsheets or CRMs, and you can keep a client pipeline organized without being reminded.
- You’re not here to “test the waters.” You take initiative and own your output.
Bonus Points If You...
- Have existing contacts in the design, advertising, or cultural institution space.
- Understand or care about the role of typography in cultural storytelling.
- Can contribute to internal planning and help sharpen how we present ourselves externally.
What You’ll Not Be Doing
- Managing our social media or sitting in endless meetings.
- Waiting for instructions on what to do next.
- Selling something you don’t believe in.
Compensation
This role includes a base salary for your part-time hours, along with commission-based compensation tied to any new business you bring in or grow. If you’re good at what you do, you’ll feel it in your paycheck.
