Job Summary
The Employee Relations Investigator is responsible for promoting a fair, respectful, and inclusive workplace by conducting impartial workplace investigations, supporting policy implementation, and ensuring compliance with organizational standards and employment laws. The role works closely with HR teams across multiple countries to manage employee relations matters, maintain accurate records, provide training, and foster a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote fair, respectful, and consistent treatment of employees in accordance with the organization's core values.
- Conduct prompt, impartial, and thorough investigations into employee complaints and allegations of workplace misconduct.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive investigation reports.
- Provide guidance and support to in-country HR teams conducting workplace investigations.
- Track and manage investigations from initial intake through final resolution.
- Implement decisions and recommendations resulting from investigations, including long-term follow-up actions.
- Maintain knowledge of internal governance policies, compliance requirements, employment laws, and organizational procedures.
- Ensure investigation records and HR data are accurate, confidential, and compliant with record-keeping requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality throughout investigation and post-investigation processes.
- Build positive working relationships with employees, managers, and leadership to promote healthy employee relations.
- Deliver employee training sessions related to workplace policies and employee relations when required.
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, Psychology, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, or a related field.
- Experience managing employee relations matters across multiple countries is highly preferred.
- Experience working with international non-profit organizations is an advantage.

- Strong knowledge of employee relations principles and workplace investigation practices.
- Ability to conduct complex workplace investigations professionally and impartially.
- Knowledge of employment laws, labor regulations, and HR compliance requirements.

- Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems.
Work Location
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Nairobi, Kenya, or Kigali, Rwanda.
