We are now expanding our humanitarian efforts to Negele East Borena in the Oromia Region, partnering with the local organization Pastoralist Concern (PC) to support affected communities.
Position: Finance Assistant
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate cashbooks and financial records, ensuring payments are correctly assigned to relevant projects and budget categories.
- Appropriately distribute shared costs among various projects.
- Ensure prompt and precise payments to Health Extension Workers, volunteers, and for field-related transactions.
- Verify that all field finance payments are supported by required documentation in line with FHI 360’s procurement policies and procedures for goods and services.
- Record all financial transactions daily in the cash book, following established guidelines.
- Confirm that all payments are properly authorized before processing.
- Accurately code all vouchers with project numbers, budget lines, and general ledger accounts.
- Process payments efficiently and within set timelines.
- Organize and maintain a transparent filing system for all finance-related documents.
- Check fund availability prior to authorizing project expenditures.
- Ensure every financial transaction is backed by appropriate supporting documents.
- Cover all finance-related duties during the finance officer’s absence.

- Address moderately complex issues, applying judgment to resolve problems or make recommendations.
- Make decisions within established policies and procedures to achieve solutions and fulfill responsibilities.
- Decisions typically impact the individual’s role or a specific functional area.
Supervision:
- This position does not include supervisory duties.
- Receives guidance for new tasks.
- Reports directly to the Finance Officer.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent international qualification.
Experience & Skills:
- 1–2 years of relevant finance experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and accounting software.
- Vocational or specialized training is preferred.
- Previous experience with NGOs is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Fluency in the local language and strong English skills required.
Physical Requirements:
- Standard office setting.
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer and perform repetitive keyboard tasks.
- Capable of sitting or standing for long durations.
- Able to lift or move items up to 5 lbs.
Technology Utilized:
- Personal computer or laptop, Microsoft applications (Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), mobile devices, and standard office equipment.
Travel:
- Minimal travel required (less than 10%).
