Job Summary
We are hiring a Head Chef to lead our kitchen team, keep food quality high, and help us grow. You will plan the menu, train the staff, manage costs, and ensure every guest enjoys a true taste of Ethiopia.
Employment Type: Full-Time (90-day probationary period)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and standardize recipes for key dishes of regional specialties.
- Create seasonal specials and update recipes based on guest feedback
- Hire, train, schedule, and coach cooks and kitchen helpers
- Conduct regular taste checks and enforce food-safety standards
- Order, receive, inspect, and store ingredients daily
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and equipment functionality
- Manage relationships with vendors and negotiate pricing
- Track food costs and recommend menu prices
- Work with front-of-house on coffee ceremonies and spice demonstrations
- Represent Akotet at community events and cultural gatherings
Qualifications
- Culinary diploma or degree
- HACCP or equivalent food-safety certificate
- Proven experience as a Head Chef with minimum 5 years’ experience in a busy kitchen, including 3 years with Ethiopian food
- Strong skills in blending Ethiopian spices
- Proficient with kitchen management software and POS systems
- Fluent in Amharic; English is a plus
- Able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
