Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP: we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing the representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP, including our values and inspiring stories.

UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

Background

UNDP has operated in Ethiopia since 1981. Since then, UNDP has focused on providing Ethiopia with strategic support to build national capacity and enhance the country’s development results in the areas of poverty reduction and economic growth, democratic governance as well as climate-resilient development. UNDP is currently assisting the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) to overcome its structural challenges as it strives to become a democratic, peaceful and prosperous middle-income country. It supports a successful transition to democratic governance, addresses drivers of conflict to consolidate and build peace, fosters enabling conditions for expanded job creation by the private sector (especially SMEs) and accelerates the transition to a green economy resilient to climate change. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are embedded across all areas of work.

In alignment with the CPD (2020-2025), UNDP has also been investing to strengthen the capacity of key federal, and regional partners while supporting communities in Ethiopia for a successful transition to democratic governance, address drivers of conflict, promote peacebuilding, create enabling environment for expanded job creation by the private sector (especially SMEs) and accelerate the transition to a climate-resilient green. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are integrated across all areas of work.

Accordingly, UNDP Ethiopia is seeking to strengthen its security and risk management capacity through the engagement of a Security Intern. This internship provides a valuable opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain practical, hands-on experience in security operations within a dynamic and professional international organization.
