Job Summary
Under the supervision of the MCH Specialty Centre Manager, the pharmacist plans, organizes, and controls the drug store and inpatient pharmacy of the centre; consolidates drugs, contraceptives, and consumable medical supplies requirements of the specialized centre; monitors proper handling and issuance of drugs and other pharmaceuticals; prepares regular reports on drugs and supplies consumption and purchase requirements.
Duties/Tasks
- Develops MCH/RH related pharmaceuticals purchasing, storage, and handling procedures and standards in accordance with national policies and standards.
- Assists in the preparation of standard specifications and codes for all major categories of medical equipment and supplies.
- Receives materials (drugs and medical supplies) incoming from the Support Office, donors, or directly from Pharmaceuticals Funds Supply Agency (PFSA) and ensures the preparation of goods receiving notes.
- Organizes the arrangement of items in proper location, shelf-code, batch number, and group for easy retrieval upon needed.
- Implements appropriate automatic stock movement control systems to monitor stock levels, unit costs, minimum levels, reorder times, and other relevant data.
- Prepares and submits stock reports as required and as per the organization’s rules and regulations.
- Ensures that drugs and other medical supplies are utilized before their expiry dates and issues medical supplies and equipment on a First Expire First Out (FEFO) basis.
- Prepares purchase requisitions to replenish materials on time in order to avoid stockouts.
- Develops systems of forecast of drugs and medical supplies needed according to consumptions of the centre and anticipated increase of clients in the coming year.
- Provides technical information on pharmaceutical issues related to drug use and interactions, side effects, and drug substitution to staff.
- Promotes the rational use of drugs.
- Proposes disposal of damaged, obsolete, expired drugs and supplies and facilitates the disposal process with relevant government authorities.
- Liaises with procurement regarding drugs and medical supplies orders, buffer stocks, and distribution to the field sites/clinics in a timely manner.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Qualification
- BSc Degree in Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacy.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the provision of clinical services.
Skills, Attitudes, and Attributes
- Good customer handling practice.
- Awareness of quality care and good pharmaceutical practice.
- Awareness of concepts and strategies of supplies.
- Awareness of MOH and FMHACA guidelines.
- Strong oral and written communication.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.
