Area of Responsibility
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a global program for violence prevention, civilian conflict resolution, and peacebuilding. In cooperation with local partners, the CPS program in Ethiopia strengthens trust between conflicting parties, supports the process of coming to terms with the violent past, and promotes the participation of all population groups. Through violence prevention and the promotion of dialogue, it contributes to dismantling prejudices and stereotypes.
Your Tasks
- Management and strategic development of the GIZ's Civil Peace Service (CPS) program in Ethiopia based on the approved CPS application and the cross-agency CPS country strategy.
- Personnel responsibility for a team of international and national ZFD specialists.
- Budget responsibility: Planning, monitoring, and ensuring the proper use of funds.
- Strategic alignment of cooperation with partners as well as planning and monitoring of joint service provision based on ZFD standards.
- Exchange and networking with existing and potential internal and external cooperation partners.
- Representation of the ZFD to the embassy, implementing organizations, and relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions.
- Ensuring contributions to knowledge management and public relations for the ZFD in the country, in the ZFD global project, and in GIZ.
Your Profile
- University degree in social sciences, political science, or cultural studies, or a comparable professional qualification, preferably with a focus on peace and conflict research.
- Proven several years of management experience as well as experience in financial management.
- Proven multi-year experience in conflict-sensitive project and cooperation management combined with high management competence.
- Several years of work experience in fragile contexts, preferably in civilian conflict resolution/peacebuilding.
- High communication skills and the ability to present information and positions in a clear, target-group-oriented, and convincing manner.
- High strategic competence and intercultural sensitivity.
- EU citizen; work experience in East Africa is desirable.
- Fluent German and English skills; knowledge of Amharic is desirable.
Location Information

The security situation is tense. Special precautionary measures are in place for GIZ staff on site. GIZ security guidelines must be followed at all times.
