About TechnoServe
TechnoServe works with enterprising people in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses, and industries. We are a nonprofit organization that develops business solutions to poverty by linking people to information, capital, and markets. Our work is rooted in the idea that, given the opportunity, hardworking men and women in even the poorest places can generate income, create jobs, and build wealth for their families and communities. With five decades of proven results, we believe in the power of private enterprise to transform lives. TechnoServe has been named the #1 nonprofit for fighting poverty by the Impact Matters charity ratings agency.
About the Coffee Practice
TechnoServe has a comprehensive approach to building a sustainable coffee industry that can lift millions of farming families out of poverty. Our approach addresses four key areas:
- Better Farming: Increasing the use of best farming and regenerative practices by providing farmers with field-based agronomy and business training using local trainers.
- Better Processing: Improving the quality of farmers’ coffee at the processing level by supporting the establishment and management of processing businesses.
- Better Supply Chains: Developing lasting market linkages and advancing sector growth by engaging with industry players to share learnings and align priorities.
- Better Environmental & Social Standards: Pioneering simple, cost-effective solutions for an environmentally sustainable and financially transparent coffee sector.
The Ethiopia coffee practice consists of multiple coffee projects and programs that focus on capacity building around better farming practices, processing, supply chains, environmental sustainability, and women's economic empowerment. These projects include Regrow Yirga, Nespresso AAA, HereWeGrow - Jimma Coffee Project, and Climate Resilience Through Empowering Women (CREW). The Program Intern will support project teams and managers in the implementation and operation of coffee projects in the Oromia, Sidama, and South Ethiopia regions.
