Position Summary

The Insurance Project Officer plays a key role in developing and implementing effective insurance solutions for smallholder farmers and rural finance actors in Ethiopia. Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the insurance landscape
• Managing project plans and budgets
• Preparing high-quality reports and presentations
• Representing ATI in various forums
• Performing additional duties as assigned by the Project Team Leader

Essential Duties

• Apply agricultural finance knowledge, especially in input/output finance and micro-insurance.
• Manage the crop and livestock insurance system.
• Design guidelines and policies for change management.
• Follow up with the technology service provider on deliverables.
• Oversee work plans, procurement, training, and payments.
• Persuade senior stakeholders to support the pilot and scale-up.
• Supervise and support rural financial institutions and cooperatives.
• Handle change management issues through a technical working group.
• Support team members in identifying and prioritizing problems.
• Assist project team members in data collection and analysis.
• Create high-quality quantitative and qualitative analyses.
• Develop actionable recommendations for projects.
• Ensure high-quality output with minimal guidance.
• Manage timelines and oversee team members' workstreams.
• Identify risks and communicate solutions to supervisors.
• Identify required resources for project execution.
• Organize communications with project stakeholders.
• Understand cultural and political dimensions of stakeholders.
• Lead capability building for regional counterparts.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with 4 years of relevant work experience  in rural financial services, including insurance, agriculture, finance, or development.
• Preference for candidates with direct insurance experience.
• Understanding of Ethiopia’s agricultural sector and rural dynamics.
• Ability to think creatively and contribute to change initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
• Willingness to learn and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
• High personal integrity and commitment to ethical standards.
• Fluency in English and Amharic; proficiency in other languages is an asset.
• Willingness to undertake additional tasks as assigned.
