Position Summary
The Insurance Project Officer plays a key role in developing and implementing effective insurance solutions for smallholder farmers and rural finance actors in Ethiopia. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the insurance landscape
- Managing project plans and budgets
- Preparing high-quality reports and presentations
- Representing ATI in various forums
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Project Team Leader
Essential Duties
- Apply agricultural finance knowledge, especially in input/output finance and micro-insurance.
- Manage the crop and livestock insurance system.
- Design guidelines and policies for change management.
- Follow up with the technology service provider on deliverables.
- Oversee work plans, procurement, training, and payments.
- Persuade senior stakeholders to support the pilot and scale-up.
- Supervise and support rural financial institutions and cooperatives.
- Handle change management issues through a technical working group.
- Support team members in identifying and prioritizing problems.
- Assist project team members in data collection and analysis.
- Create high-quality quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- Develop actionable recommendations for projects.
- Ensure high-quality output with minimal guidance.
- Manage timelines and oversee team members' workstreams.
- Identify risks and communicate solutions to supervisors.
- Identify required resources for project execution.
- Organize communications with project stakeholders.
- Understand cultural and political dimensions of stakeholders.
- Lead capability building for regional counterparts.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree with 4 years of relevant work experience in rural financial services, including insurance, agriculture, finance, or development.
- Preference for candidates with direct insurance experience.
- Understanding of Ethiopia’s agricultural sector and rural dynamics.
- Ability to think creatively and contribute to change initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Willingness to learn and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
- High personal integrity and commitment to ethical standards.
- Fluency in English and Amharic; proficiency in other languages is an asset.
- Willingness to undertake additional tasks as assigned.
