Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a project coordinator with responsibility of facilitating the development and execution of programs that enhance the skills, employability, and entrepreneurship opportunities for youth within the context of a growing green economy and revising curricula to align with emerging green skills and providing necessary support to ensure that disadvantaged youth can access quality education and training.

Your role?

As a Project Youth Officer, for Green Growth project you will be in charge of the following:

  • Collaborate with TVET institutions to revise curricula that reflect current trends in green skills, ensuring that training programs are relevant and effective.
  • Manage the distribution of financial assistance for youth enrollment in various training programs, ensuring transparency and accessibility.
  • Organize and facilitate entrepreneurship training sessions and employability skills workshops tailored for disadvantaged youth, particularly young women.
  • Collaborate with TVET institutions to revise curricula that align with emerging green skills.
  • Assist in the development of training materials that reflect current industry standards.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions focused on employability skills, entrepreneurship, and green economy practices.
  • Ensure that training programs are inclusive and accessible to disadvantaged youth, especially young women.
  • Manage the disbursement of financial support for youth enrolling in TVET education and related training programs.
  • Monitor the utilization of funds to ensure they are used effectively for educational purposes.
  • Assist in tracking project progress against objectives using established indicators.
  • Collect data on participant outcomes (employment rates, business success) for reporting purposes.
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses to create internship opportunities and job placements for trained individuals, helping them transition into the workforce successfully.
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create internship placements and job opportunities for project beneficiaries.
  • Provide guidance on job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.
  • Offer support for youth interested in entrepreneurship, including business planning, access to microfinance, and mentorship.
  • Organize workshops on business management skills tailored to the needs of young entrepreneurs.
  • Implement monitoring systems to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and employment initiatives, providing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Engage with labor market actors, financial institutions, and community organizations to foster collaboration that supports youth economic participation.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities undertaken within the project scope, including participant progress reports, financial disbursements, and outcomes achieved.
  • Promote awareness about the importance of supporting disadvantaged youth in accessing education and employment opportunities within the green economy context.
  • Develop strategies to engage disadvantaged youth, especially young women, in project activities
  • Conduct outreach programs to raise awareness about green economy opportunities among target youth populations
  • Collaborate with TVET institutions to revise curricula focusing on emerging green skills.
  • Organize workshops and training sessions aimed at enhancing employability skills among participants.
  • Manage the application process for financial support for youth enrolling in TVET education or entrepreneurship training.
  • Ensure that funds are disbursed effectively and transparently.
  • Provide guidance on business planning and development for aspiring entrepreneurs.
  • Facilitate connections between youth and local businesses for internship placements or job opportunities.
  • Track the progress of participants in terms of skill acquisition, employment status, and overall project impact.
  • Prepare regular reports on program outcomes to inform stakeholders about successes and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with local government agencies, NGOs, community organizations, and private sector partners to align efforts towards enhancing youth employment in the green economy.
  • Participate in networking events to promote collaboration among stakeholders involved in youth development initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to the community volunteers and project staff
  • Participating in the income generation activities with CBO and beneficiaries
  • Collect, analyses, update and compile data and status of beneficiaries on a monthly basis.
  • Participate in the Identification of children with psychosocial problems/learning difficulties (if any) and refer them to an appropriate person for early intervention
  • Conduct monthly meetings with the volunteers and beneficiaries, and report on the development
  • Support the project coordinator in making appropriate decisions in relation to programming activities
  • Facilitate and arrange project related meetings, training and workshops
  • Represent the project coordinator during his/her absence
  • Network and collaboration with government departments and other NGOs involved in capacity building of communities
  • Preparing project progress report (Monthly, quarterly, and Bi-annually) with the required quality and time
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Must Criteria

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Education, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth development programs or vocational training initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the green economy concepts and their relevance to youth employment.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development or training facilitation is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Amharic; knowledge of other local languages is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, and community groups

Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • The incumbent requires knowledge of social work theories, practices and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of the green economy concepts and their relevance to youth employment.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development or training facilitation is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Amharic; knowledge of other local languages is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, and community groups.
  • The incumbent must be able to respond or assist in emergency situations and have very good interpersonal, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • The incumbent must also have knowledge of child rights and UNCRC
