Key Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing AER’s financial management, accounting systems, and compliance with Ethiopian regulations and donor requirements, including:
- Managing daily accounting operations (GL, AP/AR, payroll, bank reconciliations)
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Ensuring compliance with Ethiopian tax laws (VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, pension)
- Preparing and submitting financial reports to clients and donors
- Supporting budgeting, financial planning, and cash flow management
- Coordinating internal and external audits
- Maintaining financial documentation for donor-funded projects
- Ensuring compliance with internal financial, anti-fraud, and conflict of interest policies
- Providing financial guidance to management and project teams
- Preparing and reviewing staff contracts (temporary and permanent)
- Supervising junior finance staff
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree is an asset)
- Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience (consulting firms, NGOs, donor-funded projects preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Ethiopian financial regulations and tax systems
- Experience managing donor-funded projects (World Bank experience is an advantage)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and reporting skills
- High level of integrity and attention to detail
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent written and spoken English; Amharic proficiency required
