Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading and supervising the company’s accounting functions to ensure accurate financial recording, strong internal controls, timely reporting, tax compliance, and operational accountability. This role serves as a key financial control focal person, working closely with management, operations, external auditors, banks, and government authorities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
A. Financial Management & Oversight
- Lead daily accounting operations; ensure accurate recording, classification, and reconciliation of all transactions.
- Review payment vouchers, journal entries, invoices, and payroll before posting.
- Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers; monitor cash flow; manage advances, receivables, payables, and fixed asset records.
B. Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze financial performance, prepare variance analyses (budget vs. actual), and support financial forecasting.
C. Budgeting & Planning
- Participate in annual budgeting; support departmental budget preparation and consolidation.
- Monitor budget utilization and provide expenditure monitoring reports.
D. Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Ethiopian tax laws (VAT, withholding tax, payroll taxes, pension contributions).
- Prepare and submit statutory filings; advise management on regulatory changes.
E. Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Establish and strengthen internal control systems; conduct regular reconciliations (bank, petty cash, inventory, inter-office).
- Monitor financial risks, ensure segregation of duties, and support fraud prevention.
F. Audit Coordination
- Coordinate internal and external audits; prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Address audit findings and support corrective action plans.
G. Operational Coordination
- Coordinate with procurement, logistics, HR, warehouse, project management, and regional offices on financial documentation and compliance.
H. Team Leadership
- Supervise, coach, and mentor junior finance staff; review work output and ensure quality.
I. Systems Improvement
- Participate in ERP and accounting system improvements; support finance process automation.
J. Additional Duties
- Support donor-funded project financial monitoring.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Accounting & Finance, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CMA, or CIFA are advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and finance.
- Preferred experience in telecom, ICT, engineering, infrastructure, construction, maintenance, logistics, or project-based environments.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, tax management, budget control, financial analysis, audit coordination, bank reconciliation, internal controls, and team supervision.
- Experience working with multiple operational sites or regional offices is required.
- Peachtree accounting certification is mandatory.
