Job Summary:
The Luminos Fund, a fast-growing international nonprofit bringing education opportunities to the world’s most vulnerable children, is looking for a Teaching and Learning Specialist. Depending on the experience and seniority of the successful candidate, this role may be filled at Associate Director or Program Analyst level.
The Teaching and Learning team is responsible for developing structured pedagogy materials, supporting teacher training, and building capability across the organization. This position requires hands-on experience leading the design and development of structured pedagogy materials, including lesson plans, teacher guides, and learner-facing content, to improve foundational learning outcomes in low-income country contexts.
This is a full-time role that may be based in Accra, Addis Ababa, Boston, London, Monrovia, or remotely within the GMT to GMT+4 time zone.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Development:
- Support the Director of Teaching and Learning in developing high-quality teacher guides, student books, and supplementary materials for structured pedagogy programs focused on foundational skills.
- Ensure teaching and learning materials are informed by the latest evidence on the science of teaching, including phonics-based literacy approaches and numeracy teaching methods.
- Optimize teaching and learning materials for all students, including those with learning differences and those learning in unfamiliar languages.
- Ensure teaching and learning materials are clear, user-friendly, and accessible for community teachers with varying levels of literacy.
- Promote gender equality and socio-emotional well-being through learning materials.
- Maintain high standards for material formatting, design, and illustration.
Teacher Training:
- Support the development of impactful training materials for trainers and teachers.
- Lead and assist in planning and delivering teacher training sessions.
- Provide ongoing coaching and monitoring support to country teams on pedagogical approaches.
- Support additional workstreams and contribute to problem-solving initiatives in dynamic program environments.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience:
- For Associate Director level: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years leading the design of structured pedagogy materials in low-income country contexts.
- For Program Analyst level: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in international development, education, or nonprofit sectors.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of foundational learning, structured pedagogy approaches, and the science of reading.
- Hands-on experience designing structured pedagogy materials for literacy or numeracy programs in low-resource settings.
- Familiarity with phonics-based literacy instruction and evidence-based teaching methodologies.
- Exceptional attention to detail with commitment to high-quality teaching and learning materials.
- Experience supporting literacy programs that improve learning outcomes.
- Strong ability to review and improve the quality of educational materials and outputs.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural and fast-paced environments.
