Job Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving fire safety programs, occupational health and safety practices, chemical safety, and mechanical safety procedures within the organization. The role ensures compliance with corporate safety standards, local government regulations, and industry best practices while promoting a safe working environment through training, inspections, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, maintain, and manage fire safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure effective implementation and follow-up of occupational health and safety, fire protection, chemical safety, and mechanical safety practices.
- Monitor compliance with corporate safety standards and local government regulations.
- Coordinate with government agencies, professional EHS organizations, community advisory groups, and corporate safety teams on safety matters.
- Recommend and implement preventive and corrective measures to improve workplace safety performance.
- Conduct regular inspections of operational areas, safety audits, and operational readiness reviews.
- Review and approve operating procedures to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Participate in risk assessments and hazard evaluations for existing processes, equipment, and new projects.
- Identify safety issues, determine root causes, develop action plans, and support timely resolution of safety-related problems.
- Provide technical guidance and support regarding workplace safety practices.
- Organize, prepare, and conduct safety training programs, awareness sessions, and safety meetings.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training activities, incidents, reports, and related documentation.
- Promote a strong safety culture among employees and ensure proper understanding of safety procedures.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in Fire Protection, Chemical Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or related fields.
- Experience in preparing, delivering, and managing safety training programs is highly required.
- Certificate in HACCP training is an advantage.
Language Requirements
- High proficiency in English language, both written and spoken.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, safety standards, and EHS guidelines.
- Good understanding of fire safety, occupational health, chemical safety, and workplace risk management practices.
- Strong ability to organize, prepare, and conduct safety training programs and meetings.
- Ability to identify hazards, analyze risks, and implement effective safety solutions.
- Good computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and safety documentation accurately.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Good planning, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Strong interest and passion for environmental health and safety practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
