Schedule: Monday to Friday,

Saturday – as needed.

BeMedia is a production company established in Ethiopia and is an exclusive media content provider to Kana Television.

Kana Television is an Ethiopia-focused general entertainment, free-to-air, satellite TV channel. It delivers culturally resonant content that appeals to the entire family, covering a rich selection of homegrown content combined with popular international entertainment programs, entirely dubbed in local languages.

Our company is looking for a skilled Journalist to join our News team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality news content that resonates with our audience, ensuring journalistic integrity and creativity in storytelling.

The journalist will be reporting directly to the News Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• News Production: Under the supervision of the news director, facilitate and execute news productions, including off-set planning and daily news production decisions.
• Script Preparation: Collaborate with the News Director to prepare script breakdowns and recording schedules.
• Voice Over: Perform voice-over duties for news segments, ensuring clarity and professionalism in delivery.
• Event Coverage: Cover news events as necessary, gathering information and interviews to create comprehensive reports.
• Journalistic Standards: Uphold newsroom journalistic standards that govern the coverage of news events, ensuring ethical reporting practices.
• Crisis Management: Plan for unexpected events and react effectively in crises, keeping yourself focused and committed under pressure.
• Story Idea Development: Maintain extensive working files of potential story ideas, including crucial background information and strong local contacts.
• Research and Fact-Checking: Conduct thorough research and fact-checking to ensure accuracy and credibility of all stories.
• Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance journalistic skills and contribute to the evolution of the newsroom.

QUALIFICATION AND DESIRED SKILLS:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years proven experience in journalism.
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and in high-pressure environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel out of town for training and meetings as necessary.
• Highly motivated and self-directed.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
