Job Summary:
The Junior IT Officer will provide first-line technical support, assist in hardware and network setup, perform routine maintenance, and document IT processes under the supervision of senior IT staff. This entry-level role is designed to develop practical IT skills through hands-on experience in troubleshooting, system maintenance, and user support. The Junior IT Officer will be expected to learn and adapt quickly while ensuring IT systems remain functional and well-documented.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide first-level IT support for hardware, software, and network issues.
- Assist in installing and configuring IT equipment.
- Troubleshoot basic network issues and escalate complex problems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on computers, printers, and peripherals.
- Maintain hardware inventory & asset tracking.
- Support the setup of new workstations and IT equipment.
- Implement and manage security protocols to protect data and systems from threats such as viruses, malware, and unauthorized access.
- Regularly update security software and conduct security audits.
- Ensure data is backed up regularly and securely.
- Manage data storage solutions and recover data in the event of hardware failure or data loss.
Network & Security Support
- Assist in the installation of network cables, routers, and switches.
- Monitor network performance and escalate issues to senior staff.
- Ensure that security policies (firewall, antivirus, access control) are followed.
- Maintain documentation of IT systems, configurations, procedures, and incidents.
- Report on system performance, issues, and resolutions to Senior IT Officer.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
- Knowledge of maintaining and repairing computers, printers, copiers, and other IT hardware.
- Understanding of network infrastructure, including cabling, Wi-Fi, and biometric systems.
- Familiarity with HRM systems, PEDS systems, and time attendance machines.
- Experience in managing IT assets and maintaining inventory records.
- Ability to provide technical support and training to end-users.
- High attention to detail to ensure software and systems meet business requirements.
