UNOPS HAMCO is recruiting for the position of Senior Driver based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Established in 2009, the Horn of Africa Multi-country Office (HAMCO) currently operates an established Operations Centre in Addis Ababa, overseeing a portfolio of engagements across four countries in the Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan. HAMCO focuses on providing services in Infrastructure, Procurement, Project Management, HR and Transactional Services, and Fund Management, across sectors such as Health, Education, Agriculture, and Resilient Infrastructure, among others.Our goal is to support countries in need, assist communities, and empower our partners by delivering on our mandate in infrastructure, procurement, and project management throughout the Horn of Africa.
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Associate, the Senior Driver provides reliable and safe driving services, as well as clerical support, ensuring a high level of accuracy in their work. The Senior Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, a strong sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
The Senior Driver is responsible for providing driving services to office staff, consultants, experts, and UNOPS personnel on mission. The incumbent also performs clerical support tasks within the office and messenger services outside the office.

Driving Functions
Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by:
a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items; and
b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport.
- Ensures cost-savings through the proper use of vehicles by accurately maintaining daily vehicle logs and providing inputs for the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely oil changes, tire and brake checks, car washing, etc.
- Ensures the availability of all required documents/supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, city/country map, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
- Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in the event of an accident.
Messenger Functions
- Ensures prompt and accurate delivery of mail to all UN agencies, multilateral and bilateral organizations, embassies and consulates, government, and non-governmental agencies/organizations operating in Addis Ababa. Delivers documents to courier companies and other locations as required.
- Takes care of office documents requiring protocol clearance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other government agencies, embassies, and international organizations operating in Addis Ababa. Also collects documents destined for the UNOPS HAMCO office.
- Assists with clerical work in the office when not performing messenger and driving functions. Specifically, s/he binds documents destined for the UNOPS HAMCO office and other partners, and ensures that documents for filing are properly arranged for easy tracking by the Support Services/Operations staff.
- Expedites functions related to staff visa and customs formalities as required.
- Provides support to the Admin Unit with office procurement tasks, including collecting proformas, making bill payments (e.g., for Ethio Telecom), and collecting procured items.
Support to Procurement and Logistics Services
- Provides support to the procurement team by facilitating the delivery of procured items, conducting inspections (e.g., Pre-Delivery Inspections), and handing over items to relevant offices and partners.
- Collects the Receiving Inspection Report (RIR) and ensures it is signed upon delivery of shipments to partners' warehouses. Hands over items to the relevant ministry offices and other partners.
- Ensures final Goods Receiving Notes (GRNs) are obtained after inspection of delivered shipments by partners' representatives.
- Facilitates customs clearance, inspection, loading, and unloading of any items imported by the office, and follows up on each process with the concerned government offices.

- Proactive handling and follow-up on procurement and logistics processes, including pre-delivery inspections, handovers, customs clearance, and inspection of imported items.

Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
- Secondary school completion is required.
- A Diploma in Automotive is an asset.
Certification
- A valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3rd grade level is required.
Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and skills in minor vehicle repair are essential.
- Experience working with the UN or international NGOs (INGOs) is an advantage.
Language
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- Knowledge of another UN Official language is an asset.
