Nutrition 4 Education and Development (N4ED) is a grassroots Ethiopian Civil Society Organization committed to building a productive generation by investing in children’s nutrition, early childhood development, and the empowerment of women. N4ED is expanding its efforts to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by contributing to prevention and response initiatives in Ethiopia. A new women’s shelter in Addis Ababa will provide protection and holistic support for GBV survivors.
Job Role
The Shelter Coordinator will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the shelter, ensuring it is a safe, healing, and empowering environment for GBV survivors. This includes:
- Overseeing service delivery
- Managing shelter staff
- Coordinating with service providers
- Maintaining adherence to GBV guiding principles and protection standards
Key Duties
- Shelter Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the shelter, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for residents.
- Ensure the shelter is compliant with national standards and GBV guidelines.
- Maintain proper shelter occupancy records, confidentiality protocols, and reporting systems.
- Staff Supervision and Capacity Building
- Supervise shelter staff including social workers, nurses, guards, cleaners, and other support personnel.
- Organize and lead regular staff meetings and trainings focused on survivor care and safety protocols.
- Case Management & Survivor Support
- Support and supervise the provision of individual case management services to survivors.
- Ensure appropriate referrals to health, legal, psychosocial, and other services.
- Uphold survivor-centered approaches, ensuring respect, confidentiality, and informed consent.
- Coordination and Networking
- Liaise with relevant government and non-governmental partners for referrals, safety planning, and other services.
- Represent the shelter in relevant GBV coordination meetings when needed.
- Monitoring and Reporting
- Develop and maintain accurate data collection and documentation systems.
- Prepare and submit regular, accurate reports to the Project Manager on shelter activities, challenges, and progress.
- Identify service gaps and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Psychology, Health Officer, Sociology, or a related social science or health field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with GBV survivors or in a protection/GBV-related role.
- Proven experience in shelter or residential facility coordination is an asset.
- Strong understanding of GBV guiding principles, including survivor-centered care and confidentiality.
- Excellent coordination, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage crises, and make timely decisions.
- Fluency in Amharic; proficiency in English is preferred. Knowledge of other local languages is an asset.
5. Duration and Location
This is a full-time position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
