Objectives of the Programme
The mission of WHO’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Programme is to support countries in coordinating action, preventing, preparing for, detecting, rapidly responding to, and recovering from outbreaks and emergencies. The EPPR project in Ethiopia aims to reinforce the country's capacity to manage public health emergencies, including pandemics.
Purpose of the Position
The purpose of the position is to provide project management support for the implementation of the Ethio-Pandemic Multi-Sectoral Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (EPPR) initiative funded by the Pandemic Fund. Responsibilities include:
- Managing the project and planning activities
- Coordinating financial resource allocation
- Providing project management support to ensure effective delivery of expected results
Organizational Context
The successful candidate will join the Emergency, Preparedness and Response (EPR) team and report to the EPR Team Lead. Responsibilities include:
- Managing the Pandemic project and funds
- Collaborating with stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health, UN agencies, NGOs, and health cluster partners
- Ensuring ongoing communication and collaboration for project success
Description of Duties
During the assignment, the assigned duties may be modified based on the technical needs of the program. Key duties include:
- Provide operational leadership and technical guidance for overall programme management.
- Maintain collaboration and effective communication with the project team and external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement a project implementation work plan.
- Ensure timely and optimal use of designated funds.
- Produce narrative technical and financial reports.
- Liaise with the Resource Mobilization team for funding needs.
- Coordinate analysis and dissemination of program management information.
- Attend project management meetings and represent specific projects.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Essential: Advanced University Degree (Master’s Level) in relevant disciplines.
- Desirable: Postgraduate degree or formal training in public health and/or project management.
Experience
- Essential: At least seven (7) years of progressive professional experience in project management.
- Desirable: Relevant work experience in WHO or other UN agencies.
Functional Knowledge and Skills
- Proven knowledge of project management and financial management practices.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent knowledge in project design, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Ability to foster teamwork and maintain effective working relationships.
- Strong professional skills in writing and report development.
- Demonstrated strong management advocacy and communication skills.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and sound judgment.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary and multi-national team.
