Job Opportunity: Protection Assistant - PSS

The Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly motivated Protection Assistant - PSS for our operations in Hudet, Somali region.

About the Job

Under the supervision of the emergency team leader, the Protection Assistant - PSS will be responsible for:

  • Translating PSS and other materials into local languages
  • Assisting the protection officer/PSS in facilitating group and individual counseling sessions based on DRC’s PSS SOPs and other international PSS guidelines
  • Conducting intake assessments to gather information about clients’ needs and concerns
  • Providing resources and referral information to connect clients with relevant service providers
  • Participating in the creation and distribution of communication materials needed for Information Communication and Education (IEC)
  • Facilitating culturally appropriate recreational services to help PoCs process distressing feelings
  • Properly documenting activities while ensuring confidentiality
  • Carrying out other tasks directed by the supervisor

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and social service programs related to mental health, protection, housing, etc.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and data entry
  • Previous experience (minimum 1 year) in mental health, protection, or community-based settings is an asset

Education

University degree in Psychology, Social Work, Social Science, Law, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution.

Language Requirements

  • Proficient in English
  • Knowledge of local language is mandatory

We Offer

  • Contract length: 4 Months
  • Contract Type: National
  • Band: I2 Non-Management
  • Duty Station: Hudet, Somali region
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees
