Position Overview
Employee Contract Type: Local - Fixed Term Employee (Fixed Term)
Job Description: The Education Technical Lead provides sector-specific technical leadership, thought leadership, donor engagement, and resource acquisition to position World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) as a partner of choice for high-impact programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Technical Specialists within their sector
- Ensure program quality assurance and evidence-based design
- Lead donor engagement and drive resource acquisition
- Develop and steward donor relationships
- Integrate cross-cutting themes into programming
Leadership and Team Building
- Foster a collaborative team environment
- Support professional development for staff
Resource Stewardship
- Enforce accountability through efficient resource utilization
- Achieve satisfactory financial and operational audit results
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEAL)
- Collaborate with MEAL teams to define sector-specific indicators
- Document and share lessons learned and promising practices
Required Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Planning/Policy, Early Childhood Development, Social Sciences, International Development, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree with extensive professional experience in education programming may be considered.
Training & Professional Development
- Specialized training in Education in Emergencies (EiE), INEE Minimum Standards.
- Literacy, numeracy, and foundational learning approaches.
- Child Protection in educational contexts.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) for education.
- Inclusive education (disability inclusion, gender-sensitive education, psychosocial support).
Licenses/Registrations (if applicable)
- Teaching license/certification (preferred, especially for curriculum and pedagogy-related responsibilities).
Certifications (preferred/advantageous)
- Certification in Education in Emergencies (EiE) or other humanitarian education training.
- Certification in safeguarding/child protection.
- Certification in Gender and Social Inclusion in education programming.
Required Professional Experience
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in technical leadership roles within international development or humanitarian contexts.
- Proven track record in resource mobilization and donor engagement, with experience leading technical input for large, competitive proposals.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Technical strategy development
- Program quality assurance and evidence-based programming
- Innovation and adaptive management
- Localisation and systems strengthening
- Strong external representation and negotiation skills with donors, government, and global networks.
- Excellent leadership, people management, and communication skills
- Strong understanding of Ethiopian policies, strategies, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
- Strong report writing, analytical, and presentation skills in English.
Preferred Experience and Competencies
- Proven track record of securing large-scale donor funding
- Experience in fragile or complex humanitarian-development contexts
- Familiarity with localization frameworks and systems-strengthening approaches
