This role is based within the Information Communications Technology Services Section (ICTSS) of the Publications, Conference and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD) at ECA’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Telecommunications Engineer will report directly to the Chief of Section.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunications systems.
  • Ensure the effective operation and security of telecommunication networks.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and support for the installation and troubleshooting of telecommunications equipment.
  • Develop and enforce policies for telecommunications systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver services.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and proposals related to telecommunications projects.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing training as needed.

Education

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in telecommunications, electronics, computer science, information technology, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Job-Specific Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in telecommunications or related technologies are desirable.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in telecommunications engineering is required.
  • Experience working in an international organization is an asset.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
