Position Overview
Under the supervision of the WASH Officer, the WASH Assistant is responsible for:
- Supporting implementation and achievement of targets
- Regular monitoring and reporting of progress
- Providing technical guidance to ensure adherence to international and national technical standards
- Supporting sanitation and environmental health interventions
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Work closely with the WASH Officer to ensure project objectives are met.
- Support the program team, including the monitoring and evaluation officer, in collecting primary information from operational locations.
- Represent FHI 360 at the community level and liaise with key community figures and local stakeholders.
- Follow up on routine implementation of activities under the guidance of the WASH Officer.
- Ensure regular monitoring of indicators and targets using developed monitoring checklists.
- Provide specific field progress reports on programmatic matters.
- Collect facility-level information required by the WASH Coordinator and WASH Officer.
- Handle any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Required and Desired Qualifications
- At least 2-3 years of national work experience in an NGO setting, focusing on primary health care, nutrition, WASH, or humanitarian projects.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and managing WASH programs with a focus on public health promotion.
- Experience conducting rapid needs assessments and baseline assessments.
- Sound understanding of the socio-economic and political situation in Oromia.
- Experience representing employers at relevant platforms and liaising with key stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel frequently and for extended periods to operational locations.
- Good understanding of the UN Cluster System and minimum standards of services in humanitarian settings.
- Fluency in local language and excellent proficiency in English.
- Knowledge and practical experience in public health promotion approaches and national strategies.
- Knowledge of Afan Oromo language is highly desirable.
