Job Summary
The Senior Project Officer is responsible for leading the implementation, coordination, and oversight of project activities to ensure timely, high-quality, and results-driven delivery. The role provides technical and operational support across the project cycle—including planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, and stakeholder engagement—while ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational standards. The Senior Project Officer serves as a key liaison between internal teams, partners, government stakeholders, and community structures, ensuring strong collaboration and effective communication. By providing strategic guidance, supervising field implementation, and identifying opportunities for improvement, the Senior Project Officer plays a central role in ensuring the project achieves its intended outcomes and delivers meaningful, sustainable impact for target communities.
Reports to: Program Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct assessments of existing GBV prevention and response systems across multiple contexts to identify strengths, gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement, ensuring recommendations are evidence-based and actionable.
- Plan and deliver capacity-building initiatives for targeted institutions, including designing training curricula, conducting trainings, mentoring staff, and facilitating knowledge transfer to enhance institutional competencies in GBV case management and survivor-centered approaches.
- Ensure adherence to care protocols by providing ongoing technical guidance, coaching, and support to first-line responders in the project areas, ensuring services align with national standards, SOPs, and international best practices.
- Monitor protocol implementation through regular engagement with institutions and stakeholders, tracking progress, identifying technical or operational challenges, and facilitating timely corrective actions to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Develop communication and awareness tools that promote GBV prevention, challenge harmful norms, and enhance visibility of referral pathways so survivors and communities can easily access support services.
- Support advocacy efforts by developing high-quality advocacy materials, facilitating dialogues with community leaders, authorities, and relevant institutions, and promoting increased attention, resources, and policy action for the protection and care of GBV survivors.
- Design and track project indicators, contribute to monitoring and evaluation plans, and ensure accurate reporting of progress against targets, outcomes, and donor requirements.
- Conduct regular field visits to project sites to verify protocol compliance, assess service quality, provide onsite technical support, and ensure alignment with project standards and objectives.
- Coordinate and support technical working groups of CSOs, fostering collaboration, promoting shared learning, harmonizing tools, and strengthening coordinated GBV response efforts.
- Ensure strong stakeholder coordination by maintaining productive relationships with government offices, CSOs, community structures, health facilities, and other key partners to facilitate joint planning, case referrals, and systems strengthening.
- Oversee project planning and implementation by contributing to workplan development, monitoring activity execution, and ensuring timely delivery of outputs in accordance with project timelines and budgets.
- Prepare high-quality project reports including monthly, quarterly, and donor reports, synthesizing achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations for program improvement.
Moreover, in accordance to N4ED’s other services and projects, the Senior Project Officer may be assigned additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the organization.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education background: candidates with a medical, social work, development, gender or political science education background are eligible
- Experience: Possess a minimum of 2 years of professional experience
- GBV expertise: Demonstrate experience working on GBV-related projects, applying a survivor-centered approach and adhering to ethical standards.
- Language proficiency: Be fluent in English and Amharic, with a preference for proficiency in a second Ethiopian language, facilitating effective communication with diverse communities.
- Leadership qualities: Exhibit strong leadership qualities, allowing for effective coordination, communication, and decision-making. Able to engage and inspire others, team worker and passionate about service to others.
- Autonomy and organization: Be capable of organizing activities and working autonomously, time management, prioritization and multi-tasking to meet deadlines and ensure quality of deliverables in a demanding work environment.
- Partnership exposure: Interact with local and international partners, fostering collaborations under the project and representing N4ED in GBV-related initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to volunteering and community engagement.

This is a full-time position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
