The Opportunity

The Hydrogeologist–Drilling Operation Coordinator is responsible for providing technical leadership and coordination of field drilling operations, including groundwater source investigations, drilling, and installation activities for assigned WASH projects at the Program Area (PA) level. The role ensures that all activities are carried out efficiently and effectively, aligned with the country strategy, and compliant with donor requirements.

The post holder is expected to produce high-quality technical documentation to support Plan International Ethiopia (PIE) and regional stakeholders. Key responsibilities include supervising drilling and pump testing activities in the field, managing the drilling crew, overseeing machinery operations and field resources, and ensuring the efficient use of drilling supplies.

Additional duties include verifying drilling sites before implementation, providing technical guidance to drillers, preparing well designs based on lithological logs and field observations, maintaining a comprehensive wells database, and submitting timely, accurate technical reports.

The Individual

• Minimum 6 years for B.Sc./ 4 years for MSc in Geology/Applied Geology/Earth Science/ Hydrogeology/ Geophysics /GIS & Remote Sensing
• Certified training or experience in water well drilling and construction.
• Demonstrated solid experience in the design, implementation, and supervision of large-scale Ground Water Investigation (Borehole & Shallow Well) for Solar Powered Water Supply Project
• Excellent knowledge of geology and geological factors of the specified location.
• Great technical ability to design mappings of geological data, and use geological databases and software
• Proven capacity to supervise, train, and coach staff in WASH-related Hydro Geology technical skills.
• Previous experience in managing, working with, and developing a multi-disciplinary drilling team.
• NGO work experience, preferably working in water well drilling operations in remote areas

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

• Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed per the appropriate procedures.
• Ensures that all staff in the unit/function/department are properly inducted on and understand their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;
• Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day-to-day work.
