Laboratory Technician

About the Job

Under immediate supervision of the Centre Manager/Clinical Head/Manager, the Laboratory Technician undertakes tests of collected specimens according to the prescription of the health care professional. Responsibilities include:

• Collecting and labeling specimens
• Handling laboratory apparatus for testing
• Ensuring laboratory equipment and reagents are safely kept and in working condition
• Acting as a custodian of laboratory reagents, apparatus, and medical supplies

Responsibilities

• Collects and labels all specimens to ensure they are as per the order.
• Undertakes laboratory tests as prescribed by the medical staff.
• Puts the interest of clients/patients above all other considerations and ensures confidentiality.
• Handles all laboratory instruments/equipment properly and ensures timely reporting of mechanical failures.
• Ensures proper receipt, storage, and regular replenishment of lab supplies.
• Maintains up-to-date and orderly daily records of laboratory tests.
• Receives laboratory reagents and checks expiry dates.
• Renders proper training to technicians and/or assistants as necessary.
• Ensures maintenance of a high level of standard.
• Avails himself/herself for regular stock taking as required.
• Prepares and submits monthly and/or annual laboratory and stock reports.
• Ensures proper storage handling and issuance of drugs and office supplies.
• Receives, stores, tags, and tracks store items.
• Maintains the store records area and storage area in an orderly manner.
• Receives and inspects all incoming materials and reconciles with receipts.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Qualification Requirements

• Education:  Diploma in lab technology
• Experience: Two years of experience  as lab technician
