Job Opportunity: Protection Assistant – GBV Case Worker

The Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly motivated Protection Assistant – GBV Case Worker for our operations in Hudet, Somali, Ethiopia.

Overall Purpose of the Role

Under the supervision of the protection team leader, the Protection Assistant will implement GBV case management activities delivered by DRC in Hudet woreda. Specifically, he/she will provide case management services to GBV survivors and other beneficiaries affected by the crisis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing case management services through high-quality and confidential interventions.
  • Conducting referrals to relevant services when needed, while implementing the action plan.
  • Providing counselling for all survivors referred to case management services.
  • Conducting case management in safe spaces identified in collaboration with survivors.
  • Filing and storing GBV data in the gender-based violence information management systems (GBVIMS).
  • Providing emotional support group sessions to women and girls at risk of or survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Supporting in delivering basic GBV trainings to community structures.
  • Raising gaps in GBV response services to the GBV Officer and Coordinator.
  • Ensuring regular quality implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of GBV-related projects.
  • Engaging with the community to understand needs and gaps in GBV programming.
  • Incorporating a survivor-centred approach in all GBV case management activities.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to confidentiality for all case-related information.
  • Carrying out any additional protection activities as assigned by the protection manager.

Reporting and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and regularly updating the case management database and other relevant trackers.
  • Entering client data on the DRC Case Management IM system or Excel forms in a timely manner.
  • Participating in individual supervision sessions on a weekly basis with the Protection manager.
  • Participating in internal case conferences, technical reviews, and team meetings.

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in protection, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.

Key competencies include:

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work in complex circumstances.
  • Experience in case management and referral-related activities.
  • Field experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable.
  • High level of personal initiative and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop working relationships.
  • Cultural sensitivity and commitment to DRC values.
  • Good communication skills and commitment to learning.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Education

University degree in social work, social science, law, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution.

Language Requirements

Good proficiency in written and spoken English and Somali.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National employees.
