Position Overview

EthioChicken is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Entry-Level Veterinary Laboratory Technologist to join our poultry diagnostic laboratory team. The successful candidate will perform diagnostic testing in serology, molecular biology (PCR), and bacteriology to support disease surveillance and flock health management. This role is critical in maintaining EthioChicken’s commitment to quality and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized diagnostic tests on poultry samples, including serology (e.g., ELISA), molecular diagnostics (PCR), and bacteriology.
  • Prepare, handle, and process samples following strict laboratory protocols to ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments to guarantee reliable test results.
  • Accurately document and report test results in a timely manner to support veterinary teams and production units.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities aligned with ISO/IEC 17025, including internal audits, quality control, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in method verification and validation under supervision to improve laboratory testing protocols.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety, biosecurity, and Ethiopian veterinary regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide diagnostic insights that enhance poultry health and productivity.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training to stay current with advances in veterinary diagnostics and poultry diseases prevalent in Ethiopia.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Laboratory Technology or related field from a recognized Ethiopian institution.
  • Basic knowledge and practical understanding of serology, molecular biology (PCR), and bacteriology techniques relevant to poultry diagnostics.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn ISO/IEC 17025 quality management system requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow protocols precisely.
  • Good communication skills in English and Amharic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to EthioChicken’s purpose of improving poultry health to make farmers healthier and wealthier.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office).
