Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

The welder will be working as part of the post-technical team, line managed by the technical team supervisor. The job holder's main objective will be to receive and action all general work requests that require his expertise.

The welder will cut and join metals and other materials at our workshops or construction sites. He will operate appropriate equipment to assemble mechanical structures or parts with precision, providing the foundation for strong infrastructure.

A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment while following all safety precautions. A steady hand and great attention to detail are essential, along with knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. As part of the technical team, the job holder will be responsible for actioning all work requests that require his/her expertise – 90%

  • Read blueprints and drawings, taking measurements to plan layout and procedures.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and services requiring welding skills.
  • Help in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of wooden structures, and repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, and surfaces.

2. Safe workspace – 10% The job holder is expected to review risk assessments and create a safe working environment.

  • Carry out weekly machinery tests and services.
  • Review risk assessments and work permits daily.
  • Manage the work site – cleaning, sorting, and tagging.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Welder competence certificate from a renowned institute.
  • 5 years of experience in welding work.
  • Driving license Grade Auto.
  • Proficient in English and Amharic.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Designing skills.
  • Hazard spotting skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
